"Conservation of Mass" is the first record of the Quebec band Hamadryad. Great admirers of Rush, Genesis or Gentle Giant, their music could only be progressive.

It is thus without surprise that after a first track of 43 seconds in the form of an introductory electronic delirium, appear the first rather metal riffs of "Eternal Loop", composition reminding Rush but also Dream Theater in the breaks and the guitar soli. The fourth track, "Carved in Rust", is a small interlude with several voices in the purest Gentle Giant tradition.

What is striking is Jocelyn's voice. It goes easily in the highs and, if at the first minutes of listening it can annoy a little, it melts in the end in the musical atmosphere of the band. One can't help but think of Ian Anderson, especially on "Nameless", one of the most beautiful tracks Yes could have produced, worthy of "Awaken". Everything is there, the chorus of voice, the rise of synths and mellotrons, the guitar a la Steve Howe, etc...

Don't deduce that Hamadryad is a copy of Yes even if the influences are indeed palpable. The band has built its album in a very personal way and brings you slowly towards a kind of musical ecstasy. Rather pleasant at the first listening, "Conservation of Mass" simply becomes unavoidable at the following one.

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Marriage between melodic progressive rock and symphonic orchestra, "Magnification" confirms the return of Yes on the front of the progressive scene.
