In 2020, after some ten years spent recreating medieval music, Carina Taurer and Mathieu Rossi decided to set up a progressive rock project, enlisting the talents of Olivier Orlando, then Adeline Gurtner on vocals, taking over from Olivier Marcaud, while behind the drums we find Clément Curadeau, drummer with Scherzoo (in a completely different style). Their debut album, “Where Ideal and Denial Collide”, is a tribute to the golden age of progressive rock, with a modern twist.

'The Eternal Tree' opens with a cinematic instrumental introduction, giving way to an epic first track soberly entitled 'Life', which takes us back to the roots of progressive rock, reminiscent not only of Camel or Renaissance, but with a similar approach to Big Big Train. Themes follow on from one another, as do styles, with several jazzy breaks, while the flute blends perfectly with the female vocals, bringing a color that is as appreciable as ever. Folk and medieval influences come to the fore on the pastoral 'Ethereal Melodies', while the other two epic tracks, 'Back in Time' and 'Coexistence - part 1' (suggesting a sequel and therefore another release) demonstrate the band's talent to the full.

Folk-prog in the style of Solstice, flute or Hammond solos supported by an inspired bass in jazz-rock mode, an electric passage before a return to piano/vocal mode, symphonic arrangements, addictive melodies, majestic choirs, all within tracks that you'd like to never end - this is the menu offered by Oddleaf to the ears of the listener, who can only note with delight the quality of this music, both addictive and emotion-generating.

There's no need to go into all the subtleties of these all-too-short 48 minutes: Oddleaf are quite simply THE revelation of progressive rock made in France, with a debut album that puts them right at the top of the list of bands to watch, and not just in our beautiful country. A must-have.

ALTERNATIVE ROCK - O.R.K.'s fifth album demonstrates the band's desire to move away from their original progressive sound towards a more metal one. While the whole remains pleasant, a sensation of already-heard hovers.
HANIBAL DEATH MACHINE: Éclipse Anthropocène (2024)
INDUSTRIAL METAL - Debut album from a French indus outfit distinguished by French lyrics and relentless rhythms akin to dark metal.
