It's already been four years since the Frenchmen of Harsh have been pointing their manes and their leopard leggings in the middle of the hard rock landscape. 2018 had seen them offer a first EP ("Slave") as well as two additional singles. After sharing the stage with Inglorious, Anvil or Loudness, the quartet finally releases its first album whose cover tiger and patronymic ("Out Of Control") seem to be synonymous with a certain savagery always welcome when it comes to launching an opus of this musical genre.
'Good Lovin' opens the hostilities on a good big riff typical of the 80's, a catchy chorus and virile choirs accompanying a perfectly mastered vocal. If many elements confirm that Albert Arnold and his buddies have been fed with Mötley Crüe, Guns'n'Roses and others, they offer an original recipe. First of all, these guys breathe authenticity and sincerity by throwing an energy at the same time communicative and domesticated. It is thus difficult to resist to the future anthems that are 'Fire At Will' or 'Make The Law' which will make furor in the pit.
Another strong point of this album, the two power ballads which, far from sinking in the syrupy, bring a gleaming US color that Skid Row ('Believe Me I'm Alive') or Poison ('A Better Tomorrow') would have not deny. And then there is the variety of the approaches which reinforces the effectiveness of an opus which concentrates its remarks on hardly more than thirty minutes. 'The Sound She Does', with its jazzy intro and its groove that reminds of the best from Extreme, is the best example of a set multiplying influences while digesting them perfectly, keeping all its coherence. The excellent solo of this title also proves that the four musicians are technically talented and that this musical genre does not confuse energy and simplism.
By taking their time to release their first full-length, Harsh let their art mature. "Out Of Control" is far from being a simple rehash of the albums that the 80's had to offer. It shows both richness and efficiency for an already personal result, even if the influences seem obvious. With this opus, the band imposes himself directly beside Blackrain as being part of the leaders of a French hard rock scene that needs such formations to gain credibility within the rock landscape. - Official website
