Except One is a rising sensation in Death Metal. Their first production ("Haunted Humanity") allowed us to discover this band with a strong personality, between metalcore and melodic death metal. Then, on "Fallen", they had evolved thanks to their new bass player, Crypp, who allowed them to flesh out their music and to free themselves from a style. For "Broken", the family grows with Tim on guitar for a new production even more intense and powerful.
Except One has gained in maturity. Maybe it's due to Estelle's vocals, more varied and very mastered ('In Nomine'), or to the diversified and fluid musical set up... However, the main thing is that the band is still having fun and spreads its intense energy, a kind of red thread throughout the record.
In half an hour the essential is said. But even if the band wants to extend its musical ambitions at times, it is constantly guided by the melody. The record navigates between metalcore passages ('Hollows', 'Silent Scream') and ambitious moments ('Void'). It surprises when 'In Nomine' is dressed with symphonic passages and clear vocals. It reverses the values when the primal cries precede the sweetness ('Bloods Of The Underdogs') or when the bass carries the melody when the guitar supports the rhythm. It is finally not devoid of tenderness or sweetness, when the latter impregnates the very bewitching 'Broken'.
"Broken" is a mature record, which combines the urgency of punk and technical mastery. Except One grown up, refine their music while summarizing their purpose. "Broken" is strong, bitter, short and tight like an Italian espresso. In short, a record as Music Waves likes them. - Official website
