We no longer present Lunatic Soul, a parallel project of Mariusz Duda, leader of the band Riverside. For 12 years now, the artist has been leading a career twinned with her band that allows him to explore the themes of death and life with his musician's eye. If the disappearance of Piotr Grudziński had plunged him into an introspection of which "Wasteland" (Riverside), "Fractured" and "Under The Fragmented Sky" were the testimony, since then time has done its work to soothe the pain of this brutal disappearance.

So to speak, "Through Shaded Woods" takes the opposite direction of the previous albums, Mariusz refocusing on himself and being this time alone in charge. To do this, the Pole takes the listener by the hand to lead him into the great Scandinavian forests for a change of scenery and a sort of almost dreamlike journey, even mystical. This is illustrated by the more important contributions of folk music and especially the abandonment of electronics in this new album. In this sense, the album is somewhat similar to "Lunatic Soul II" of which it would be almost the continuation with a more organic and therefore almost warm atmosphere (if we can use this term for this project).

The music of Lunatic Soul is always characterized by a bass  which plays the leading role thanks to a very important sound research and a playing always so masterful. From the very beginning with 'Navvie', the atmosphere is cheerful with a luminous and bouncy music and a slightly recessed and dark low vocals, followed by an incantatory turn leading to 'The Passage'. This long eight-minute track is constructed in its first half like a loop on which Mariusz has fun adding layers, densifying this part to better introduce a second, more nervous, with sharp riffs around which the percussion swirls. The voice and the interpretation are also one of the assets of the project with this clarity and a very low timbre that works wonders in the very moving 'The Fountain'. The other bravura piece is 'Summoning Dance', with a rhythmic that fascinates as much as ever and a few atmospheric movements that leave room for  sylvestres daydreams. This return to nature is one of the richness of the album and an undeniable singularity.

After a dark and certainly cathartic period, "Through Shaded Woods" offers a more luminous facet of Lunatic Soul by infusing to the record a more folkloric, almost medieval music, which perhaps opens a new chapter for the project. An almost apart album, this production constitutes one of the most beautiful productions in the project's discography, which we can only advise you as it is so immersive (especially if you are a role-playing enthusiast).

Dommage.
