Bloodbound is a Swedish band that has achieved what now appears to be a feat: reaching the age of 15. With a well-stocked discography, including a belatedly declared love for dragons since two albums ("War Of Dragons" released in 2017 and "Rise of The Dragon Empire" made in 2019), it was high time for the Scandinavians to thank their fans who have been following them for a long time.
What better way to do this than to dedicate and compose an anthem to them ! Here is an original idea... Pushing the innovation to its paroxysm, the band thought why not to make an EP around this song by proposing some live tracks as a bonus ! That's how the EP "Bloodhead United" was realized earlier this year. The five minutes that this anthem lasts begin under the cries of an audience in trance the time to introduce the first measures of a song built on a quasi mid-tempo. If the melody is perfectly assimilable, it suffers from a crying lack of originality.
If the will of the band was to bring an epic breath of a dimension equivalent to the love that its fans carry to him, this is not a full success. All the markers of the style are found in a way a little too mechanical: a little symphonic side, plenty of choruses, repetitive primary riffs, a vocal break in the middle that makes the transition to a classical guitar solo to finish on the chorus. Despite this lack of risk, the title does the job.
The rest of the EP is made up of live interpretations of tracks from previous albums that have the merit of energizing and contrasting with 'Bloodhead United'. We feel the band perfectly at ease on stage, especially in the epic 'Battle In The Sky' with its symphonic speed touch. The band takes a lot of pleasure in live, which translates into the enthusiastic reaction of the crowd that they don't hesitate to harangue to bring an extra atmosphere in the pure tradition of the style (of which Maiden was the forerunner).
Honestly, we don't really see the interest of such an approach, knowing that all the live tracks were already present in the live "One Night Of Blood" released only four years before. This EP will certainly satisfy the collectors or the die hard fans, for the others the interest remains skinny. - Official website
