Catalogued at the time as atmospheric metal with titles based mainly on a verse/chorus structure, Karmamoi took a stylistic turn taken in 2016 with the publication of "Silence Between Sounds". "The Day Is Done" confirmes this evolution in a progressive melancholic and symphonic rock style.
The atmospheres proposed on "The Day is Done" can be divided into two poles. First of all, the vocal parts assured by the rather flat voice of Sara Rinaldi distil a Scandinavian melancholy, which one could bring closer to Paatos for a moment. The rhythmics are very slow, the instruments breathe a peaceful atmosphere that can go from very simple moments ('Mother's Dirge' or 'Running Through the Land' and its voice/bass passage) to others much richer, but always with restraint. The flute thus invites itself regularly, emphasizing with its roundness the soothing side of these parts. On the other hand, as soon as the field is left free for the instrumental sections, the machine gradually gets carried away and gratifies us with post-rock-like rises in power that often burst into powerful choruses in which guitar solos, rhythm sections or 70's keyboards parts then appear.
Throughout these passages, the attentive listener will bring these moments closer to Talk Talk (the intrumental 'Getaway') or Marillion (always 'Getaway' reminiscent of 'The Space'), Steve Rothery seeming to be a great source of inspiration when selecting electric guitar sounds. At the opposite end of the spectrum, cosy piano-bar atmosphere and jazzy passages ('The Day is Done') also contribute to the musical eclecticism proposed by the Italian duo and their guests.
But beyond this simple formal description, Karmamoi's talent lies in their incredible ability to mix all these ambiances within a single track, with once again a proven sense of melody that hits the mark and multi-layered arrangements. It is also necessary to underline the enormous work of Daniele Giovannoni behind the drums who, while knowing how to remain discreet, impels the multiple rhythmic changes that give all their flavour to the different pieces.
A small hour of music for great moments of emotion: little by little, Karmamoi builds its multi-faceted progressive sound, served by a first-rate quality of interpretation and realization. Don't miss this beautiful album, accessible to the greatest number while being sufficiently structured to please the most demanding. - Official website
