"After eight years of silence, Khymera returns with a beautiful album of melodic hard rock, classic but invigorating."

In 2003, Steve Walsh, the legendary singer from Kansas, introduced us to his new band Khymera. Accompanied by two Italian friends, he had concocted an album of hard melodic music, close to Winger and Survivor. Two years later, with the release of "A New Promise", he had already left the ship, replaced by the very busy bass player/vocalist/producer Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Unisonic and Place Vendôme among others).
After "The Greatest Wonder" in 2008, here is now "The Grand Design", without Danièle Liverani, the original keyboardist, who left the band like as the others italians did. In their place, two musicians from across the Rhine, the drummer from Edguy and the guitarist from Wicked Sensation, have arrived. After eight years of silence, what can this new combo offer us?
Actually, nothing much new compared to the previous album. Khymera doesn't change its recipe and still offers this commercial European melodic hard rock tinged 80's that he's been developing since his second album, and he's doing rather well in this exercise. One thinks in turn of House Of Lords, Ten, Bon Jovi or Journey, even Giuffria and Icon when listening to the scores of the two keyboard players (synths and piano). Nearly half of the opus is made of hits, the rest of the album holds its own but has less impact due to a certain lack of originality of the melodies. To get an idea, check out the excellent tracks 'Tell Me Something', 'I Believe' and 'Where Is The Love'.
So here's one more hard melodic rock album to fit into a discotheque that is crumbling under the weight of opus of the same genre. But no matter, the quality is there and the pleasure too. - Official website
