Following the success of "Parachutes", Coldplay returns to the studio in September 2001 to begin work on their second album. The band moves from London to Liverpool and selects eleven songs from the twenty they had written. "A Rush of Blood to the Head" is released in August 2022 and proves to be a huge hit.

Coldplay's talent is unquestionable, and on this album they oscillate between rock with strong melodic accents and masterful, airy pop. The recipe tested on "Parachutes" is greatly developed here, and the piano, Chris Martin's instrument of choice, really explodes alongside the electric riffs. The guitar/piano duet follows, responds and blends, forming the skeleton of "A Rush Of Blood To The Head". The drums, which were somewhat in the background on the first opus, appear more determined this time.

The album opens with the capricious 'Politik', featuring a bright, sonorous production as the tempo gradually slows. This is followed by a climb to apotheosis, culminating in the moving 'Green Eyes'. Coldplay continues in one of its favorite styles, melancholy, with 'Warning Sign' and 'Amsterdam'. While 'In My Place' is a fusion of the two sides of the band, robustness and delicacy, 'The Scientist' builds on its melodic qualities and 'Clocks' thrills us with its piano melody.

In December 2003, readers of Rolling Stone magazine voted Coldplay best artist and band of the year. Given the quality of "A Rush Of Blood To The Head", this title seems well deserved. Coldplay easily passes the second opus hurdle and launches a career that will go far beyond its borders.
