Second album for Vanden Plas who had given us a "Colour Temple" with simple but nevertheless catchy structures. For this "God Thing" Vanden Plas had the good idea to thank the French public by including a track sung in French. An originality that very few bands can claim to have.
From the very first measures, the Vanden Plas style is self-evident. In other words, a metal between heavy and progressive, clean and square. The riffs, present in all the choruses and a good part of the verses have this characteristic, ample and dirty sound, which will follow them throughout their career. These riffs, which are quite boring during prolonged listening, are fortunately accompanied by synth chords and are mostly interspersed with acoustic guitar, bass or piano parts. The latter is particularly well exploited, in a terribly effective rock style. For example, I would like to mention the amazing solo of "How many tears", unfortunately too short.
As everywhere in progressive metal, many are the rhythm changes, the technical parts - without dissonances however - and the guitar solos. The vocals, which in my opinion represent the only real flaw of this band, are quite good on this album. It is neither false nor nasal but evolves in a very limited register.
Thanks to the intelligent use of various instruments such as the piano, a few strings and synthesizer, "God Thing", which could have found itself drowned in the mass of metal albums because of its common riffs, imposes Vanden Plas as a band to discover. Lovers of teutonic metal can only be delighted to have found an original band. The others have to listen to this album with its sometimes surprising content. - Official website
