New album and new era for Angra. After a disappointing "Fireworks" and a tour in half-tone, the band exploded following internal tensions. André Matos, Luis Mariutti and Ricardo Confessori left to form Shaman, leaving Kiko Loureiro and Raphaël Bittencourt alone to face their destiny. The latter are not discouraged and decide to keep the name of Angra. They recruit new members, namely, Edu Falashi (ex Symbols) on vocals, Aquiles Priesto on drums and Felipe Andreoli on bass.
The band wastes no time and releases this album shortly after the split. It was feared that the band would not recover from such an important departure. Andre Matos was an exceptional singer and Ricardo Confessori an excellent drummer.
After an intro in the pure tradition of the band, 'Nova era' starts with its classical sounds, its choirs and its rather fast tempo. The band has found a very good singer with Edu. Of course, this one doesn't go up as high as André Matos but he has an excellent register of emotions, maybe even more varied than his predecessor.
"Rebirth" being a return to the sources, the Brazilian influences are obvious. 'Unholy Wars' which is a track like 'Carolina IV' is a perfect example with its strong South American accents. All the instruments are in turn honored until the choirs which make their appearance on 'Acid Rain'.
Angra signs with "Rebirth" an almost unexpected return in force. Loureiro and Bittencourt take their revenge with a band that we thought was moribund. The production of the record is much better than for "Fireworks" and the sound is much warmer. Rebirth is a successful rebirth. - Official website
