Released at the same time as "Sirius B", "Lemuria" is the most extreme part of Therion's multi-album oeuvre. For more information, please read our review of "Sirius B".

"Lemuria" features big guitars, orchestral parts and female vocals, this time with the addition of death vocals. Whether you're a fan of death vocals or not, the growls on offer here don't detract from the musical character of the compositions. On the contrary, they add a blacker, darker dimension than on "Sirius B".  Lemuria" is undoubtedly a little more varied than "Sirius B", with its folk touches, soaring atmospheres and even a few martial rhythms.

All the qualities of "Sirius B" are to be found in "Lemuria". The only downside is that the band's creative verve is beginning to run out of steam, and we sometimes get the impression that they're relying solely on arrangements, abandoning their own imagination ('Abraxas'). But there's nothing prohibitive about this, especially as gems of the genre are scattered throughout, notably on the eponymous track, where the guitars take on a softer, more atmospheric feel, with superb backing vocals.

Therion offers us a monument in the genre. Fans should love it, especially as there are not one but two excellent albums to listen to. Therion had done very well with "Theli", and has just done even better with these two albums, which are superior in every way and will become a benchmark not only for the band but for the genre.
