'001' was the kind of album that you discover by chance, a record which was difficult to find, to say the least. And yet ... Freegh is the project of multi-instrumentalist Pierre Emberger, author of several essays in group or solo, including a rock opera in 1997. And then, inspired by a short story by Anne and Daniel Meurois-Givaudan, our artist decides to realize a conceptual work, integrating musical elements borrowed from the great hours of progressive rock.

And from the very first bars of All That You Deserve, it is a real sound slap that invades the listener's ears: rarely has one heard a production so clear, so limpid, highlighting each instrument so well, and sublimating Pierre Emberger's warm voice with its extended register. Impressive! The acoustic guitar fills the space while the bass hums quietly, the harmony being barely disturbed by a few protrusions of electric guitar, while the keyboards ensure a measured symphonic atmosphere without ever being intrusive. The whole ensemble thus proves to be quite simply magical. And what about the quality of the writing! Unstoppable melody, meticulous accompaniment...

And far from copying his illustrious elders cited as references in the libretto (Yes, Peter Gabriel or Pink Floyd), Pierre Emberger writes his own score, certainly integrating some elements to the previously mentioned bands (I Won't Cry reminding Welcome To The Machine by Pink Floyd for example), but also taking some from 80s. And then, as for any great album, THE moment of grace, which is in fact declined in two parts: the splendid Akasha, its feminine vocals, its progressive construction and its orientalizing side. A first part sets a bewitching scene, while the second part closes with fireworks an album in all respects successful.

With this accessible music, divinely written and interpreted, Freegh could well be one of the connectors that could (finally!) bring the general public back to listening to a music that speaks to emotions, the one capable of synthesizing the intelligence of the productions of the 70s and the accessibility of current musics. You know what you have to do: rush to this album!
