Despite a clear artistic revival, Sepultura is still struggling to regain the glory that seems to be far away, as witnessed by the last concert halls with a relatively low capacity. "Kairos" is once again presented as a concept record about the time and history. "Kairos", which comes from ancient Greek, represents a special moment in time when important things happen.

On this opus, Sepultura officiates in an incisive thrash with hardcore colours, coming back to the sounds of "Roorback" and "Dante XXI", but with a lot of more laid down passages so as not to tire or repeat itself. The record is once again built on four acts interspersed with interludes.

Overall, the album evolves in an exacerbated brutality, each part swinging at least one thrashy missile of rare power. Thus "Spectrum", "No One Will Stand", "Just One Fix", a very effective cover of the hit Ministry, or "Kairos" and "Seethe" are formidable hardcore thrash tracks which send the competition of the genre back to his dear studies. Derrick Green is still as biting in his vocal parts, his hardcore tone having lost nothing of its aggression, which marry marvelously to the incisive riffs of an indefatigable Andrea Kisser, always as precise as raging.

In order not to get tired, Sepultura not only had the intelligence to integrate some calmer passages in some rougher tracks like on "Relentless", characterized by a very good and more melodic break, but he also offers darker and heavier tracks like "Dialog", a superb composition. With "Structure Violence", he even signs a rather atypical track, a clever mix of indus, thrash, experimental and tribal passages for a quality result.

"Kairos" is a very good album to put at the top of his discography. Let's hope that it will find a large audience again... The quality of his music deserves it amply.
