Supergroups seemed to be in vogue in 1989, as House Of Lords and Bad English were joined by a new group of Melodic Rock heavyweights. Led by Dann Huff, known for his role in White Heart, but above all as a studio musician sought after by the greats (Madonna, Michael Jackson, etc.), Giant is also made up of Alan Pasqua (Rick Springfield, Santana, Bob Dylan, etc.) on keyboards, Mike Brigitte (Giant) on vocals, and Mike Huff (Giant) on vocals. ) on keyboards, Mike Brignardello (Tim Mc Graw, Jeff Bates, Van Zant, Emmylou Harris, Faith Hill, Shania Twain...) on bass, and little brother David Huff (White Heart,) on drums.

Led by Dann Huff's powerful, warm, clear vocals and inspired guitar, Giant delivers a string of hits, including 'I'm A Believer', an excellent, dynamic and catchy hard FM opener, enriched by a catchy chorus and a luminous solo, introduced by a superb guitar solo followed by layers of keyboards and a thunderous launch of the rhythm section.

Where many combos tend to slow down the pace, Giant keeps up the pressure throughout this monumental "Last Of The Runaways", stringing together 11 jewels and varying the pleasures, whether slow and powerful ('I Can't Get Close Enough'), groovy ('No Way Out'), bewitching ('It Takes Two'), hypnotic ('Stranger To Me') or straightforward ('Hold Back The Night'). The art of the ballad is also perfectly mastered, with the single 'I'll See You In My Dreams' combining strong choruses and delicate verses, and 'Love Welcome Home', light and full of feeling. And to top it all off, each track benefits from deceptively simplistic structures, varying tempo without ever losing effectiveness.

"Last Of The Runaways" is thus a must-have album for all fans of finely crafted Hard Rock FM. Reinforced by Terry Thomas's clear, airy and powerful production, this first album sets Giant at the pinnacle of the genre, as few combos manage to combine power and delicacy, majesty and feeling, compositional finesse and efficiency with such class.
