""The Book Of Dreams" turns out to be a very good first album of Progressive Rock and allows us to discover Mangala Vallis, a young Italian band with great potential."

Mangala Vallis is an Italian band that presents its first album with "The Book Of Dreams". One of its particularities is to be a trio without a singer and no less than three guests have provided the vocal parts. Without being conceptual, "The Book of Dreams" is inspired by Jules Verne and the great ideas of the visionary writer serve as a red thread.

The first track, which serves as an introduction, allows us to appreciate the symphonic aspects of the album revealed by a classic, but still delectable, mellotron rise. The rest of the album only confirms this impression and the progressive rock of Mangala Vallis happily evokes that of Landmarq in "Solitary Witness". The music is opulent, generous, the arrangements are refined and all the ingredients of this musical genre are masterfully dosed.

Rather than detailing all the synthesizer flights, the guitar riffs, the acoustic breaks that every progressive rock fan knows, let's linger on the English vocals of the three guests. The first, Mateo Setti, sings 2 of the 6 tracks with a clear, pleasant voice and without any particular tone. The second, Vic Fraja, sings 3 tracks and his voice, a little rocky, gives the tracks a little Peter Gabriel touch. Finally, the last one, Bernardo Lanzetti from PFM, has a more Italian voice, with a tremolo that may put some people off.

"The Book Of Dreams" turns out to be a very good Progressive Rock album. The fact of having several singers allows to bring a little more variety even if Vic Fraja's interpretation seems the most solid. All that remains is for Mangala Vallis to transform the test with a second album that we hope will be as good or even better.
