Operation Mindcrime is the third real album of the Americans from Queensrÿche. Their style, close to Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, stands out from the metal scene of the time thanks to a grandiloquent progressive side. For this album, Queensrÿche decided to take a new step by proposing a concept album inspired by the work of Orwells and the Wall of Pink Floyd. They call upon Rush's producer, Peter Collins, who will help them realize their masterpiece.

Because masterpiece there is. Queensrÿche composes an album of genius, dark and gloomy that deals with the mental manipulation of individuals. Magnified by Michaël Kamen's superb orchestrations, the band composes very catchy hymns such as "Revolution Calling" or "Spreading the disease".

The album is built around dialogues and instrumentals that connect the parts of the story. Beside very immediate titles like "Operation Mindcrime" or "Speak", there are longer, more chilling tracks like "Suite Sister Mary", on which Pamela Moore sings. A new tone is given, which contrasts with the Hard Rock productions of the time. Musically the alchemy is perfect. Chris De Garmo's playing forces respect and Geoff Tate's vocal allows the listener to live the story 100%.

Queensrÿche has created an album of reference for heavy metal and the world of rock in general. By shaking up the hard metal of the time, he participated in the emergence of progressive metal. We also have a record that hasn't aged in 15 years, proof of its exceptional quality.

PORCUPINE TREE: Recordings (2001)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Closer to the dark and atmospheric atmosphere of the beginnings of Porcupine Tree, "Recordings" is a kind of testimony of a bygone era for this unusual band.
SHADOW GALLERY: Legacy (2001)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - The very open and direct style of Shadow Gallery in this "Legacy" will only delight the amateurs of progressive metal.
