After years of work, Grave Digger has finally become one of the spearheads of Germanic Heavy Metal thanks to two very good consecutive albums. On this 8th record, Chris Boltendahl's band continues their historical and medieval adventure stories. After the Scottish wars, the band approach with "Knights Of The Cross" the crusades and the adventures of the Templars from their birth in 1129 to their fall in 1312.

Musically, Grave Digger still offers a Heavy Metal in the right line of its predecessors. The sound is massive and the epic aspects more sparing to offer a very homogeneous record, both heavy and powerful, in which there are maybe less hits than on "Tunes Of War" but without any dead time and especially with this unique historical breath.

The sequence 'Lionheart', 'The Keeper Of The Holy Grail' and 'Inquisition', form the heart of the album. We find there the favorite ingredients of Grave Digger, namely warlike choruses, an epic side, huge choruses (the one of "Inquisition" especially) and well worked riffs and soli.

In addition to these compositions, Grave Digger offers us more classic heavy tracks but with this "little something" more which it has the secret since its reformation. The band has this particular talent to sound simple and direct but bringing to its compositions a strength that makes the difference. And this can be felt in Uwe Lulis' riffs, in Chris' vocals, often accompanied by choirs, or in the keyboards that play a quite significant role on this album.

"Knights Of The Cross" confirms once again the good shape and the intelligence of Grave Digger's writing. Of course, the album is less direct and requires a few listenings to get into it, but it presents once again a band that masters its subject.
