"Heart Of Darkness", the second album of Grave Digger's reformation, is synonymous with hope for a band that has come back from a long way. The middle of the 90's was the right time to release a heavy metal album, while a new fashion was emerging, led by Angra or Gamma Ray.

The duo Boltendahl/Lulis does not disappoint and the level goes up a notch to propose an excellent album of epic, fast and melodic heavy metal. Grave Digger kept its formula and even improved it by accentuating the dark and aggressive side while keeping the epic facet which suits so well the tone of Boltendahl. The program is tempting with a large panel of tracks sometimes fast and uncompromising, sometimes Heavy and epic, with a certain finesse.

Among the heavy tracks, there are the anthems 'Shawdomaker' and 'Warchild', two direct and efficient hits that will set the stage on fire during concerts. On the other hand, the band offers us heavier and more massive tracks, all of them with a little extra something that makes the difference, like the unstoppable chorus on "The Grave Dancer", the entrance riff on "Demon's Day" and the sustained rhythm on a quasi-thrash "Hate". Special mention to the guitar of Uwe Lulis who knew how to make himself indispensable in a very short time.

But in spite of the quality of these tracks, it is the epic ones that make the record go into another dimension with notably 'Heart Of Darkness', a real bravery piece, containing in turn acoustic, dark and heavy passages and that opens new horizons to the band.

"Heart Of Darkness" succeeds in surpassing its brilliant predecessor. The band offers us here an unstoppable album and is simply positioned as a classic of the genre. Grave Digger took a long time to launch their career but has now the potential to become one of the spearheads of the Germanic heavy scene.

BEARDFISH: Mammoth (2011)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - "Mammoth" stands at the crossroads of The Flower Kings, Overhead, Simon Says and even ACT, with an obvious musicality and a very fluid technique.
NIRVANA: In Utero (1993)
GRUNGE - "In Utero" is an excellent album that has aged very well and proves that Nirvana was not just a fashion phenomenon but a talented band.
