There are bands like that that you immediately want to get involved with. Crystal Viper is one of them. Why is that? Because it offers an original formula? No, not really. No, simply because the Poles have in their ranks an asset of weight ( and charm): Leather Wych (!), whose real name is Martha Gabriel, also singer in Börn Again, a new project that was born last year.

No need to lie, without the presence of the young woman with a physique as charming as her voice proves to be powerful, would her band have succeeded so quickly in making a name for themselves and signing a deal with AFM? It's unlikely. However, a beautiful chassis is not everything, a bit of personality is necessary, even indispensable. Yet, as a kind of cross between Doro and the Kai Hansen Walls Of Jericho period (the mimicry is striking), the beautiful woman pleasantly surprises with her slightly erratic vocal lines that sweat testosterone through every pore.

Thus, (fortunately) light years away from all those "Castafiore", Martha joins the few women who are not afraid to compete with men on their own turf. Close in spirit to Veronica Freeman (Benedictum) and heir to the 'metal queens' of the 80's, she brings an undeniable freshness to the Heavy Metal created by her band. Even if they don't invent anything, they nevertheless make a very good epic Heavy metal fed with the Heroïc Fantasy of a Manilla Road but musically closer to the original Helloween we're forced to think about. The voice, the riffs, everything is there. A track such as "Greed Is Blind" testifies to this.

If the first listenings don't leave an imperishable memory, one surprises oneself afterwards to hum the very dynamic melodies of these compositions, certainly classicals but which gallop at 100 per hour and finally do a crazy good. In fact, how could we resist of "Blood Of The Heroes", a sharp speed hymn, "Black Leviathan" which opens with very 'Maidenian' first bars, the power ballad "Sydonia Bork" where Martha shows that she doesn't always shout, without forgetting the slower "Goddess Of Death" with its memorable chorus, and "Secret Of The Black Water", based on heavy tune.

Nothing to throw away from Crystal Viper whose sincerity can't be questioned and who progresses from album to album. No headache here, Legends, like its predecessors, but better yet, goes back to the German tradition of the eighties. Nobody will complain about it. And anyway, a band that still releases its records in vinyl version can't be bad...

MOTORHEAD: Ace Of Spades (1980)
HARD ROCK - "Ace Of Spades" From now on, it will be impossible to consider Hard-Rock without Motörhead's punk energy, greasy sound and powerful interpretation.
DARE: Beneath The Shining Water (2004)
A.O.R. - Dare is a rare and precious band, and "Beneath The Shining Water" will undoubtedly be its most beautiful work next to the inaccessible "Out Of The Silence".
