""Aqua" will definitely please the band's fans, but also those who would have a penchant for a Speed Metal that is at the same time melodic, inventive, subtle, and progressive."

We've been waiting four years for Angra's new album! After "Aurora Consurgens", the Brazilians are finally back in September 2010 with "Aqua". This is a concept-album based on Shakespeare's The Tempest and based on what is, according to singer Edu Falaschi, the central element of the opus, namely water.
Angra has once again decided to serve us something powerful, metallic, energetic, all accompanied by melodic and inventive interludes characteristic of the band, with soli as fascinating as they are technical. In short, what we can notice at first sight, apart from the quality of the record, is the continuity of the Brazilians with a music similar to what we were used to.
No risk taken, therefore, but hardened steel rhythmics, with raging guitars supported by an admirable double bass drum playing, a guitar playing impressive in technique but also in melody, Kiko Loureiro's paw being felt every second, and of course the inimitable vocals of Edu Falaschi, always loud and clear, giving this particular soul to Angra's music.
Impossible not to shake your head on the single "Arising Thunder" where you can recognize Angra's paw on a speed verse followed by a chorus immediately relayed by a stunning interlude with screaming guitars and impeccable solos... We can quote the very progressive "The Rage Of The Waters" whose intro reminds us of the unleashed riffs of a Dream Theater, with its avalanches of palm-mute notes punctuated with harmonies, the interlude going then to take the listener for a walk in Brazilian sounds with multiple percussions doubled by a groovy bass. Follow the ballad "Spirit Of The Air", skillfully mixing a few aggressive moments with a touching tenderness, the whole supported by this rhythmic with Brazilian influences reinforced by layers of keyboards in the background as only Angra knows how to do. Finally, we can end by quoting "Weakness Of A Man", where the frenetically acoustic guitar riff with its bewitching harmonies goes perfectly with a cover of it in a metallic version in the middle of the track. The guitar is once again a master instrument, melodic, inventive, and ultra-dynamic, supported by a perfectly interpreted vocal, and a drum set that is not to be outdone.
In the end, without bringing any real originality, Angra makes Angra and proves once again that the band excels in a style of its own. An album that will definitely please the band's fans, but also those who would have a penchant for a Speed Metal that is at the same time melodic, inventive, subtle, and progressive. - Official website
