In the summer of 1990, a rejuvenated Slayer returned to Hit City West studios after a half-hearted album, "South Of Heaven", which was considered too soft by many fans. Pragmatic, the members of the group return in this "Seasons In The Abyss" to the foundations of the Slayer style established since their beginnings, ten years earlier, while incorporating the mid-tempo grooves of the previous album.

'War Ensemble', martial and virulent in the straight line of "Angel Of Death", allows to find the Slayer of the origins, immediate, spontaneous and primary... Few bands can claim to have such an identity, immediately recognizable, whatever the song or the album! The hits follow one another, from the very gloomy 'Dead Skin Mask' to the explosive 'Born Of Fire', through the very heavy 'Expendable Youth' and 'Skeletons Of Society', without forgetting the terrible 'Hallowed Point', with its hallucinating speed and density. The eponymous track, which will have its own video (a first for Slayer), is in the spirit of "South Of Heaven" and includes melodic parts, but this time, the osmosis is successful and the balance, technical as well as artistic, forces the respect.

The production, once again supervised by Rubin with Andy Wallace as technician, also marks the filiation between the different 'styles' of Slayer, superimposing the clean vocals and the clinical drums of "South Of Heaven" to the moist and electrifying guitar sound of "Reign Of Blood". This album is a sonic paradox, clinical but dirty, putrescent and dazzling at the same time.

Modern, and even ahead of its time, Slayer negotiates with "Seasons In The Abyss" the turn of the 90's with an incredible class and makes itself forever a place in the paradise of metal... The following tour will be monumental and will give rise to the release of a live album worthy of the same epithet, "Decade Of Aggression", which still today will bring an ecstatic smile to the face of many metalheads... Unfortunately, the departure of Dave Lombardo will announce the beginning of a desert crossing to which the band survived, not without leaving some feathers.

SLAYER: South Of Heaven (1988)
THRASH - Sandwiched between two monstrous albums, "South Of Heaven" is mainly a victim of the context in which it was written, but shows that Slayer is a band capable of renewing itself.
SAGA: Silent Knight (1980)
ROCK - With "Silent Knight", Saga is entering the legend of progressive bands.
