"The Fourth Legacy" is the fourth album of Kamelot and let's say it right away the opus of the consecration for this band which officiates in a Melodic Metal style with Symphonic tendency. If the cover undeniably attracts the eye, it is especially on the musical level that the band has made the most progress.
First of all, the writing has gained in maturity. Kamelot has a lot to say and you can hear it. One of the explanations probably comes from the participation of the singer Khan in the elaboration of the compositions whereas he was previously content to place his vocal lines. Another reason comes from the classy side of the tracks, frequently imbued with a seductive emphasis while avoiding the trap of grandiloquence. The string quartet invited for the occasion is one of the catchy elements of this opus, the violins magnifying some melodic flights. Finally, another striking element can be credited to the diversity of the proposed atmospheres which allows us to move from one region of the world or one era to another.
Thus, Kamelot makes us travel to the West at the end of the 8th century with Gregorian chants in the excellent eponymous track with a thundering break and a swirling riff, then embarks us for a cruise towards the Middle East with the epic 'Nights of Arabia'. He makes us discover the Welsh shores in the folkloric 'The Shadow of Uther', Ireland with the sumptuous ballad 'A Sailorman's Hymn' in which Khan, accompanied by female voices that intermingle, offers us a dazzling performance, Alexandria, three centuries BC, alongside its designer Alexander the Great on 'Alexandria' and finally Jerusalem with the very sweet medieval ballad 'Glory' which charms by its acoustic guitar and violin.
These variations and this richness of sound make "The Fourth Legacy" a symphonic album not to be missed. The whole is a faultless, from the thundering production of Sascha Paeth and Miro to the voice of Khan which reminds Geoff Tate's, passing by the explosive drums of Casey Grillo, the female voices, the flute of 'Desert Rain', the double bass of 'Nights of Arabia'... In short, an exceptional work for any fan of Symphonic Melodic Metal. - Official website
