In the land of Uncle Sam, a western actor has become President, so an actor who forms a well-established Rock band will not surprise anyone in the slightest. Jared Leto, do you know him? If you saw the movies "Alexander", "Fight Club", "Requiem for a Dream" and "Panic Room", you couldn't miss it. On the other hand, you may have missed the handsome guy when he is behind a microphone, a guitar slung over his shoulder, accompanied by his brother Shannon on drums. However, his band 30 Seconds to Mars is on its third opus in seven years with this "This is War" and is followed by a number of fans that continues to grow over time.

This "This Is War" could be somewhere the perfect point of convergence between My Chemical Romance, U2 and Muse. After the opening "Escape", an intro barely sung, we continue with a succession of impressive hits: "Night of the Hunter" (announced in French !), a track stuck between U2 and Depeche Mode with a luminous chorus, "Kings and Queens" (the single), a song with a very "carrier" melody, the wonderful "This is War" and its splashing melody, the exceptional and quiet "Hurricane" with a really captivating melody and the improbable break Hip Hop Electro by Kanye West. But also "Closer to the Edge", which reminds us of U2, "Vox Populi" and its huge choirs mixed with rhythms reminiscent of "We Will Rock You" as well as "Search and Destroy", once again melodically irreproachable.

Of course, some will easily criticize the chorus of "Vox Populi" which perhaps plays a little too much with the humanist banner, the jubilant cries of the crowd on "100 Suns" which further accentuate the "preacher" aspect of the band and the incantatory gurgles ending "L490". But the main thing is elsewhere. You will appreciate the atmosphere of this opus, its melodic flights, its temperate anger and the hymnical approach.

30 Seconds to Mars is a good alternative rock band that has metallized its subject on this "This is War", an album that should at least allow them to win a battle if it does not yet win them the war.
