After the relative failure of " Savage Amusement ", Scorpions decides to return to musical values that have been successful in the past. Exit Dieter Dierks, historical producer of the german Quintet, and hello Keith Olsen (Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne...). The American technician thus puts an end to the FM experimentations of the previous album which had brought so much debate. As for the compositions, they use the formula that has been so successful since the arrival of Matthias Jabs instead of Uli Jon Roth.

Indeed, all the elements that made the success of "Love At First Sting" are present, without falling into repetition. The titles are varied, without disconcerting the fan of the venomous combo, and Keith Olsen's production opens wide the doors of the US market for which titles such as "Tease Me Please Me" or "Don't Believe Her" seem destined. The hit ballads are back after the flop of " Believe In Love " on " Savage Amusement ". And it must be said that the Scorpions were particularly successful with a "Wind Of Change" about the fall of the Berlin Wall, with an unforgettable chorus and an amazing melody. Here is one of these rare titles endowed with a true soul. As for " Send Me An Angel ", its aerial atmosphere is perfectly suited to an end of album making us land delicately.

But the Hanoverian combo hasn't fallen into the marshmallow yet, which allows them to offer us 9 other tracks alternating easy but hyper efficient melodies ("Tease Me Please Me"), and heavier tempo "Restless Nights", irresistible accelerations ("Kick After Six") and intoxicating power ("Crazy World"). The interpretation is flawless and allows Klaus Meine and the Jabs / Schenker pair to be showcased once again. But Olsen's production also has the merit of not neglecting a first-rate rhythm section where Rarebell's playing is particularly dynamic, while Buchholz's is at once round, heavy and varied.

Scorpions thus makes a strong comeback on the Hard Melodic scene and the episode "Savage Amusement" seems to be nothing more than a regrettable accident. "Crazy World" is one of those rare albums whose titles are at the same time varied, accessible and all as successful as each other. It is still their best selling album to date, even if history unfortunately tends to retain only the ballads which, despite their undeniable quality, do not deserve to eclipse the other titles of such high quality that accompany them. An opus that every lover of the style must have in its playlist.

SAXON: Power & The Glory (1983)
MELODIC METAL - "Power & The Glory" can be considered as the first episode of a new era for Saxon who seems to have needed to evolve his style.
ANUBIS GATE: The Detached (2009)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - Less incisive than Vanden Plas but more progressive than DGM, this new Anubis Gate is a great success that will certainly delight fans of the genre.
