IQ is now one of the key groups in the neo-progressive movement. Subterranea, their last double album before this one, was the confirmation of the talent and the improvement over time of this formation since "Ever". With "The Seventh House", IQ returns to a more common format with a simple album containing six tracks with elaborate and imaginative lyrics.

There is no doubt that "7th House" is a continuation of what IQ has already produced. The use of keyboards in all its forms is as always very important. Piano in the foreground, discreet synthetic chords in the background are the lot of all the tracks. Peter Nicholls' voice, so particular and which will not leave you indifferent, is a natural part of the instrumental harmonies. The bass is still as well exploited as ever and not only fulfils the role of accompanist but often imposes itself as the rhythmic motor of the compositions.

As the neo progressive style requires, there is no dissonance or excessive technicality to be deplored. The instruments merge to provide many moments of hearing pleasure. The changes of tonality give the atmosphere of the moment with accuracy, shifting from oppression to deliverance. Many soli with clear guitar going straight to the point, an often original and always catchy rhythmic make this album of simple and yet innovative appearance, a magical moment.

Without having the scale of a Pendragon, nor the roughness of the progressive genre, IQ continues its way with its personality and its intimate style. "7th House" is an excellent album, supporting several listenings in a row and bringing its share of surprises and thrills each time. Just the eponymous title alone deserves to be acquired. "7th House" should even satisfy the refractories of the neo-style with its variety and lightness.
