Anthropia is a 100% made in France product that offers with "The Ereyn Chronicles Part I" its second album. Well anchored in a Symphonic Power Metal at the limit of the progressive, the opus offers us 10 tracks with a duration going from 6 to 10 minutes including an opening and a short interlude.
The light symphonism of the opening title well respecting the codes, the soft and warm, raspy and threatening strings of the guitars, the powerful choirs and a narration in crescendo, everything is made to make the listener enter in the best way the concept of this unusual album. The riffs are incisive, powerful and inspired; "Question Of Honor" strikes us with its implacable rhythmic, hammered by a particularly inspired and gifted drummer. The breaks and changes of rhythm already take place, the bass coming thus to tease our ears in delightful parentheses. The exercise of the first solo is done without worries, a classic crescendo coming to rest on an avalanche of riffs always more gripping.
"Lords Of A World" shows once again an absolute creativity in the arrangement of each detail. The voice of Hughes, if it lacks a little bit of power, is not without quality, betting on a flawless technique, alternating lyricism and narration, the light and nervous singing. There again the improbable breaks, of which one almost electro, follow one another to leave on rhythmic frames quite simply exceptional of maturity.
Let's point out the extraordinary instrumental palette displayed on "Through The Sleeping Seamed", sparing its effects to deliver a perfect score as well as the mastery of the purer atmospheres on "Forgotten", or the graceful contribution of the female voice present on "Lion-Snake" in the middle of the ambient and palpable rage. We can also underline the amazing mastery of the power ballad "Where The Secret Lies", or the surrealistic character of the interlude "The Walk Among The Ruins" worthy of a Tim Burton and finally mention in the roll of honor the two monuments that are "In The Maze Of A Nightmare" and "The Desert Of Jewels", this last one being quite simply impossible to overlook because of its gigantic size, its infinite range of atmospheres, styles and emotions.
Anthropia has once again struck a blow by shaking up the codes of symphonic power metal. "The Ereyn Chronicles Part I" is a rough diamond which will require some efforts to be tamed but which, once tamed, will leave the listener stunned in front of so much mastery and success. - Official website
