"Without being a Whitesnake must-have, "Lovehunter" contains some of the band's legendary tracks that will land on many playlists."

"Trouble" had laid the foundations of Whitesnake's style and David Coverdale didn't want to waste time to give it a follow-up. "Lovehunter" hits the stores in 1979 with a nice cover to attract the eye of the customer.
The team remains the same as for "Trouble" and the complicity between the musicians is obvious. Coverdale even goes so far as to give up the microphone to Bernie Madsen on "Outlaw", a rock-funk-bluesy song of excellent quality but which has the misfortune to arrive after 2 peaks of an album however irregular. Indeed, it is difficult to stand out after the rock'n'roll overvitamined of "Mean Business" which sees John Lord going wild in solo on a rhythmic led by a roaring bass, and after the vicious "Love Hunter" alternating plaintive verses and Soul-Blues refrains on a Slide background.
This is the general problem of this excellent album. Beside some nuggets, other tracks have a little difficulty to exist. It's hard for the swaying "Medicine Man" and the 70's Rock'n'Roll of "You'n'Me" to get a place in the sun after the bluesy warmth of "Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues" and a "Help Me Thro' The Day" dripping with feeling.
"Lovehunter" cannot be considered as an essential album of Whitesnake, even if some tracks have logically entered the legend of the great white snake. This album seems to be more of a confirmation of the hopes that "Trouble" could have given birth to. It is now obvious that David Coverdale's band can look forward to the future in a big way. So don't hesitate to let yourself be bitten by the animal, the venom it will inject into your veins will only bring you positive symptoms. - Official website
