This Dutch band, which was only at the beginning a project created by Martijn Westerholt, ex-pianist of Within Temptation and brother of Robert the founder of the band, owed its emergence only to the will of his keyboard player to gather for a record some of the biggest names in the metal scene of the moment. Martijn, who had left Within Temptation in 2001 for health reasons (Pfeiffer Syndrome), had enjoyed composing some songs during his long period of care. These are the latter that appear on the band's first opus. Then, while no concert was planned, the success of this album forced the band's fate, live performances were finally created and one thing led to another, the desire to release a second pamphlet naturally titillated their unconscious.

"April Rain" the first track is a melodic bomb alternating moving calm periods (the introduction, the verses and the pre-final break), punchy movements (the burst of post-intro riffs) and majestic chorus. At the improbable crossroads of an Oldfield "Moonlight Shadow" and an Within Temptation "Stand My Ground", this track opens this opus in a remarkable way.

Close to Nightwish, we have "Indivia" (partly because of the vocal presence of Ronald Landa, the band's guitarist) and singer/bassist Marco Hietala on the tracks "Nothing Left" and "Control The Storm". Nightwish, but also Leave's Eyes with "On the Other Side", a piece composed by Charlotte with the participation of cellist Maria Ahn, member of the famous classical music trio Ahn Trio.

The melodious qualities are omnipresent and frequently offer little refrain jewels as on the well-fished "Go Away", the most striking track on the album with symphonic gusts of the most beautiful effect, on the very lively "Virtue and Vice" and on the sumptuous "I'll Reach You".

So certainly, we can always blame the voice too often doubled by Charlotte or in "Virtue and Vice" the grunts of Ronald Landa (the guitarist) so much their aggressiveness is badly embedded in the (relative) ambient sweetness. We can also express some reservations about the structure of the songs, which is often the same with a couple of couplets/choruses generally supported, ranging from deceptive calm to striking guitars.

Beyond these few downsides, there are so many satisfactions! Delain offers us here a little jewel of symphonic pop metal accessible to all...

PROGRESSIVE ROCK - "Numb" presents the more metal side of Blind Ego, which will delight fans of sound walls but will undoubtedly leave fans of more classic progressive rock unmoved.

MELODIC HARD ROCK - Without being a Whitesnake must-have, "Lovehunter" contains some of the band's legendary tracks that will land on many playlists.
