After the very successful "Cosmic Genesis" and especially one year after the sublime "Empiricism" of Borknagar, Vintersorg comes back on the front of the stage with this "Visions From The Spiral Generator". Definitely, for the prolific Swedish, quantity rhymes with quality. This album is another nugget to be ranked among the best of the genre. But which genre? Metal ? Prog ? Black ? Folk?

Well, all that at the same time! Except that where this mixture can quickly become indigestible, with Vintersorg it is natural and perfectly edible. Listen to the magnificent 'Vem Styr Symmetrin' and its hyper catchy chorus, the very melodic 'A Star Guarded Coronation', the technical 'Universums Dundka Aurabet' or the otherworldly experiments on 'E.S.P Mirage'...

Vintersorg succeeds in conveying his metaphysical and cosmic message through his voice that he manipulates with ease, going from the most possessed screams to the most beautiful melodic flights. The line up resembles that of a supergroup, Vintersorg and his sidekick Mattias are surrounded, once is not customary in Scandinavia, by Asgeir and Sir Steve Di Giorgio himself, who is not an extra.

This quartet, led and directed by Vintersorg, delivers an album of great class, which highlights the wide range of emotions that can be transmitted through music. If you are tolerant with screamed vocals and if you like progressive music, this "Visions From The Spiral Generator" is a must.

ANEKDOTEN: Nucleus (1995)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Anekdoten asserts a little more its taste for dark and tortured atmospheres, supported by melodies and rhythms in which Crimson influences can still be detected without difficulty.
