While waiting for their new studio album, Anathema keeps its fans waiting in this year 2008 with a CD featuring in semi-acoustic versions several tracks from their discography. A question will immediately come to the connoisseur's mind: similar to a kind of "Best Of", and knowing that Anathema is not particularly recognized for its instrumental technique, what more can "Hindsight" bring to what we have already heard?

If Anathema is certainly not a technical reference, they have an undeniable gift for provoking emotion with very few resources. A few notes on the guitar, a few chords on the keyboard combined with a gentle singing are enough to take us into a whirlwind of sensations, each more delicious than the next.

The Cavanagh brothers must have thought that by purifying the subject a little and adding one or two violins it was possible to improve the emotional return that certain titles could provide... Great for them! "Hindsight" simply succeeded in reviving a flame that had been blunted by the countless listenings.

This is how the accustomed will fall in ecstasy in front of almost all the compositions he already knew by heart. What a joy to rediscover tracks like "Inner Silence", "Are You There", "Flying" with its accordion sounds or the wonderful "Angelica" from the album "Eternity" that I had never really heard before. For those who have never heard of "Anathema" - if any remain - this "Hindsight" is a great way to discover this band.

We knew that Anathema had an enormous talent for composing simple, skinny music. We now know that they have not lost any of their potential. The darkness that has always dominated Anathema's subject has given way here to a soft, almost euphoric melancholy... All this bodes very well for the next studio album...
