Truly born in 1992, and after a first EP "Sorrow Throughout The Nine Worlds", released on Pulverised Records in 1995, it's with this first album "Once Sent From The Golden Hall" and a signature on Metal Blade Records that the Amon Amarth adventure really begins. Hailing from Tumba, Sweden, Amon Amarth's unique style of melodic death metal is also known as Viking Metal.

From the outset, Amon Amarth imposes its style and its trademark, with a unique and remarkably Death-like voice, virile and deeply low, which multiplies the screams and almost bestial rales, fitting perfectly with the warlike and mythological themes developed on the album.

Olavi Mikkonen, Amon Amarth's main composer, invites us to take part in grandiose war epics with melodic tracks like 'Friends Of The Suncross' and 'Amon Amarth'. Even if some tracks are rather fast, like 'Ride For Vengeance', 'Abandoned' or 'Once Sent From The Golden Hall', Amon Amarth favors raw, powerful and thick rhythmics over outrageous speed. If you need to listen to just one track to get a feel for the band's music, it's 'Victorious March', a veritable invitation to join the horde and go decapitate imaginary enemies. Martin Lopez, who will join Opeth after this album, plays his role to perfection. His playing, combining feeling and technique, is a delight to listen to, as he brings great rhythmic variety to each track.

With "Once Sent From The Golden Hall", Amon Amarth signs a landmark album for the melodic Death Metal scene. Even if it's not the best of their already extensive discography, this opus will impose the "Amon Amarth" style, which will often be copied but never equalled. An essential album for any true fan of viking death metal.
