Fervent admirers of Genesis, King Crimson, Yes and Gentle Giant, rejoice because Sweden showed us during the 90's that it was full of progressive bands claiming their origins and having the ability to take up the torch from their elders. Apart from the Swedish behemoths such as Flower Kings, Pain Of Salvation or Isildurs Bane, some small bands went relatively unnoticed without being able to explain why. Anglagard is one of them.
"Hybris" offers 40 minutes of pure happiness during which you will be able to admire all the extent of the talent of these musicians, notably in the variety of the composition. Anglagard does not hesitate, like many of his models, to mix rock instruments and flute, offering us true lyrical flights in which are regularly ed technical demonstrations knowing how to keep a link with the melody or moments of rest ensured by the muffled sound of the flute.
The only small defect remains perhaps the vocals in Swedish, this language concealing many sounds a little hard. In the same way, the first albums of Kaipa suffered from this defect.
Anyway, with this album, Anglagard succeeds in making us go back thirty years, with a clean sound worthy of the 90s, without tiring the listener. It's just a pity that this band only released a few albums before disappearing.
