A few months after the incandescent 'Bloodbath', a veritable massacre of old school death metal performed by geniuses - Swano surrounded by members of Opeth and Katatonia - Dan Swano returns with his progressive rock project Nightingale, alongside his brother Tom Nouga.

"Alive Again" is the continuation of the Nightingale saga, the band's albums being linked by a concept. Whereas their previous albums were sad and sombre, 'Alive Again' exudes a certain joy, while retaining the band's characteristic atmospheric edge.

In the name Progressive Rock, there is above all the word Rock. While many forget this, Dan Swano brings it to the fore on this album, a veritable ode to rock in all its forms. It gets your feet tapping, makes you want to jump around screaming the choruses, without forgetting the melancholy aspects. Songs like 'Shadowman' and 'Into the Light' are the best examples, rock gems that will leave no one indifferent.

Nightingale's 'Alive Again' is all about emotion. It's all about feeling, but nothing is left to chance. The arrangements are sumptuous and each part seems to have been worked on and reworked, without the original inspiration being altered. Another remarkable thing about this album is the solos. Brief and inspired, they illuminate the excellent 'State of Shock', probably the most powerful track on the album.

Be warned, 'Alive Again' isn't as easy to get into as you might think. Could it be the kitschy keyboards, Dan Swano's deep voice or the atmospheric passages that sometimes go on a little too long? What's certain is that once you've assimilated the world of Nightingale, you'll feel like you've grown wings and can take off on a journey into the infinite world of emotions.

"Alive Again" is a very good progressive rock album, with the emphasis on emotions and on the pure, groovy side of rock. It's a shame this excellent band didn't have more success. Perhaps they could have continued their career, which unfortunately seems to have stalled for years now.
