Welcome to the tormented world of Devin Townsend and his band. Already 9th album of this singer-songwriter discovered and propelled by Steve Vai. In Terria, Devin juggled between violent metal and atmospheric metal, a rather perilous exercise requiring a certain amount of acclimatization time but overall positive. What has he concocted for us this time?

Those who are not used to his albums will be struck first of all by the huge sound and the power he gives off. All the compositions are made up of heavy riffs from beginning to end where the production, contrary to many progressive metal bands, hasn't been cleaned up at all. In addition to these, there are omnipresent keyboards that continuously deliver their chords to bring this exceptional sound dimension.

But the strong point of this album, which stands out from its previous productions and which is one of the driving elements of this opus, is Townsend's overpowering voice. Bringing rage and nervousness when he forces it, softness and calmness when it supports the melody, it really gives the mood of every moment.

Apart from one or two tracks, the tempos are quite slow and rather basic. As for the progressive side of Accelerated Evolution, it is far from being obvious. Maybe it comes from this lack of label that characterizes Townsend's music...

I was really delighted by this album. The little flaws that appeared to me in the previous opus simply disappeared. Some of you may feel a little tired at the end of the listening, due to the very full style, but overall Accelerated Evolution should please a large audience.
