"By proposing pieces with influences of an impressive diversity, 'King For A Day' is a surprising album which will not stand out in an already outstanding discography."

"King For a Day", Faith No More's fifth album, had a rather paradoxical effect on my behavior. It's not my favorite and yet it's the one that I would have listened to the most. The explanation is very simple. "King For a Day" is an album with such a varied content that many listenings are necessary before being able to understand it correctly and to define which tracks stand out more than others.
Because Faith No More, led by its charismatic singer Mike Patton, did not choose to simplify the task by imposing us tracks with an impressive diversity of influences. The relationship between the nervousness of 'Get Out' opening the opus, the delicate ballad between soul and funk 'Evidence', the punk 'Digging The Grave', the very jazz fusion 'Star AD' or 'Caralho Voador' in a bossa nova style is not the most obvious. And that's the strength of this album, playing with labels at the risk of destabilizing the average listener who usually likes albums with a well-defined genre.
This will not prevent Faith No More from selling more than one million copies. It must be said that managing to ape so effectively the characteristics of different musical genres is not given to everyone and few bands can boast of offering so many catchy tracks. Mike Patton's voice is obviously a driving force behind this success. You just have to listen to him on 'Just A Man', starting suavely, then passing in head voice to finish in a raging mixed vocals on gospel choirs, to be convinced... Terrifying of ease and accuracy.
'King For A Day', which can thus be compared to a big and very serious delirium (note the paradox), is a surprising album which will not be out of place in an already outstanding discography. Faith No More has no limits and doesn't want to give any... Another reason to be interested in this honest band that seems to have the power to turn everything they touch into gold... - Official website
