After 2 more than promising albums, the stars of Boston decide to take advantage of the means finally put at their disposal by their label to strike a big blow. Tired of being compared to the Rolling Stones, mainly because of Steven Tyler's physical resemblance to Mick Jagger, Aerosmith will offer us a real cult album that will influence a whole generation of musicians.

If the 9 tracks of this album are of a level well above the average, it conceals however two nuggets which crossed the years without losing an ounce of their brightness. Thus, with "Walk This Way", Aerosmith simply laid the foundations of Funk Metal well before the Red Hot Chili Peppers or Faith No More came to give its letters of nobility to this genre until then unknown. The cover of this track a decade later by the rappers of Run DMC will be a new hit, but not without the presence of its progenitors.

The other diamond in the rough of "Toys In The Attic" is the monumental "Sweet Emotion" with its bass intro soon joined by a talk box then still in its infancy. The guitars then rush on this highway to offer us a legendary riff and a terrific chorus. And here is how a band offers an unavoidable masterpiece.

However, these two jewels should not make us forget the rest of the album which starts on a high note with the eponymous track on which Joe Perry offers us a demonstration of sharp riffs that he will continue until "You See Me Crying", the ballad concluding this trip on the summits of Hard Rock. This recipe based on grandiloquent orchestrations will make the success of the band on many occasions thereafter. Impossible also to pass under silence the delirious swing-blues of "Big Ten Inch Record" with the ambiguous text mixing the reference to a 25 cm record and a male organ of the same calibre. The very rock'n'roll "Adam's Apple" and "No More No More" and the heavy and powerful "Round And Round" complete this collection of tremendous tracks.

And this is how Aerosmith managed to give us a classic rock album in the broadest sense of the word, after only 3 albums. For our greatest happiness, they will not stop there and will continue to spoil us thereafter, even if the excesses brought by the success (Tyler and Perry were besides nicknamed the Toxic Twins) will be sometimes responsible for s of regimes which will make fear the worst.

AYREON: 01011001 (2008)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - Even if Lucassen doesn't reinvent anything and always proposes a rather spatial progressive rock/metal, this "01011001" remains a sure value.
AC/DC: Let There Be Rock (1977)
HARD ROCK - "Let There Be Rock" will give AC/DC its letters of nobility by putting the British and European market at its feet and by opening the doors of the US market.
