After two albums that allowed Matthias Jabs to establish himself within the band, Scorpions decided to move up a gear. First of all, the tendentious covers are over. The one of this new album announces the color. We will have to deal with something more aggressive.
The first tracks come to confirm us this state of affairs. The eponymous title offers us sharp and cutting riffs while Klaus Meine offers us a percussive and aggressive vocal. This is all the more understandable when we learn that he wrote this track in connection with the double operation of the vocal cords that he underwent and after which he had to relearn to speak and, of course, to sing. This track, as well as the aptly named and explosive 'Dynamite' are still part of the Scorpions' setlist and their live effect is guaranteed. This facet of the album is completed by the scathing 'Now' and 'Can't Live Without You' with its crushing riff. It should be noted that this last one benefited from the honors of a radio broadcast, as well as the more commercial 'No One Like You'.
Because Scorpions did not lose its sense of catchy melody and unstoppable chorus. Endowed with these arguments and semi-acoustic verses, this title is accompanied in this field by a 'You Give Me All I Need' with a repetitive chorus and the very lively 'Arizona' which comes to bring us a little fresh air after 'Dynamite' and before a 'China White' with a heavy tempo, a heavy riff and a dark and stifling atmosphere. The unavoidable ballad 'When The Smoke Is Going Down' comes to close these 36 minutes of a rare intensity. Just check the track list to see that it is full of hits.
The musical performance is of course up to the mark. We will not go back over the performance of Klaus Meine who reaches the top. The complementarity between Rudolph Schenker and Matthias Jabs is perfect and we must not forget the important role of the rhythm section where the heavy and powerful hit of Hermann Rarebell comes to propel each title accompanied by the bass all in roundness of Francis Buchholz.
The success will be as high as the work and will allow Scorpions to reach a worldwide fame. The door is then wide open for "Love At First Sting" which will come to crush everything on its passage. - Official website
