RPWL? What an unpronounceable name for a progressive rock band. The explanation is simple: each letter corresponds to the initials of a band member, Phil Paul Risettio (drums), Chris Postl (bass), Kalle Wallner (guitar) and Yogi Lang (vocals and keyboards). RPWL rose from the ashes of a previous band called "Violet District" and to say that they are a far cry from what they were doing at the time.
Indeed, RPWL have decided to change their universe completely and dive fully into Pink Floyd's one. The singer sings like David Gilmour (sometimes backed by female vocals) and the guitarist plays like David Gilmour. "Stock" breathes the Pink Floyd atmosphere encompassing all the periods of this band, from "Dark Side Of The Moon" to "Division Bell" to "A Momentary lapse of Reason". The sound is huge, the synthesizers (Moog, Mellotron) grandiose and the compositions magical.
RPWL is what you could call a tribute band. They assume the fact that they have been strongly inspired by the style of a single band. When the result and the quality are there, who would complain. "Stock" is simply breathtaking. Pink Floyd worshippers will fall to their knees in tears when listening to this album. For the others, it remains an excellent investment, melodious, easy to listen to and above all timeless.
