In a career spanning ten years, Shakra's music has never really surprised for its originality and has paradoxically always hit the bull's eye. So what is the reason for this craze? Is it this sound, whose apparent banality is only a facade, is it Mark Fox's voice or the square and dynamic rhythm that gives the band this raw style and this image of Bad-boys...? Yes, all that for sure.

The strength of the Swiss quintet also lies in its ability to synthesize the best of Hard Rock to get the best out of it... In this sense, "Infected" is one of the best examples of what their already consequent discography has offered so far. Preferring the attack to the defense, this new opus is full of sharp riffs, incisive constructions and give the listener no respite.

Thirteen tracks make up this album, and each of them has been carefully chosen among sixty songs, which leaves one dreaming about the next B-sides and future albums. Tracks after tracks, the urge to stamp his feet and to turn up the sound are there, and only two ballads come to disturb these primal impulses loaded with testosterone: "Love Will Find You" and "Acheron's Way" which gently closes the album on a passionate vocal and a nice acoustic melody.

The eleven other tracks oscillate between peachy hard rock and melodic metal, dominated by a snoring bass and an inspired rhythmic and carried by an almost inhabited rocky voice. The very heavy "inferno", the mid tempo and the unifying refrain of "playing with fire" or the incisive "Look At Me" and "Higher Love" are all successful.

To tell the truth, "Infected" only suffers from one flaw: victims of a recipe that works, the tracks tend to be similar and a full listening can quickly turn out to be exhausting. But if you're looking for a cure for life's little disorders, or if you can't wait to scream a good chorus in your car after work, throw yourself into this album! Guaranteed effect.

OTHER REVIEWS
DEVIN TOWNSEND: Infinity (1999)
PROGRESSIVE METAL - "Infinity" is a new work of the first rank, a bit less catchy than its predecessor, notably because of a coherence and a less obvious guideline.
ANEKDOTEN: A Time Of Day (2007)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With "A Time Of Day", Anekdoten strives to refine his musical style to obtain a coherent and harmonious ensemble, which skillfully merges his inspiration from the past with his modern instincts.
