With their rich and explosive “Titans Of Creation,” Testament delivered a monumental album celebrating thrash metal, an opus that unfortunately fell victim to the pandemic and did not receive the exposure it deserved. Since then, the Americans have toured extensively and still found time to compose “Para Bellum.”

The start of the album is in keeping with its title. 'For The Love Of Pain' oscillates between thrash and death metal, carried by an ultra-ferocious Chuck Billy. The tone is fast, nervous, and nasty, evoking the “The Gathering” era with beautiful intensity. 'Infanticide A.I.' is just as heated, with enormous aggression. The fast rhythm evokes Slayer with explosive riffs and solos and an overall violence that leaves no one unscathed.

'Shadow People', 'Witch Hunt', 'Nature Of The Beast' and 'Para Bellum' see Testament return to a classic thrash framework, with Chuck Billy carrying the unifying choruses with a powerful and clear tone. The rhythm is fast and punchy, resulting in a highly effective track. On ‘High Moon’, the tone is modern and groovy with a wild, percussive edge. With ‘Meant To Be’, Testament calms things down with a melancholic ballad full of charm, carried by a veiled vocal style worthy of Alice In Chains

“Para Bellum” is a powerful and highly effective album. Testament show themselves to be in great form and confirm that they are still capable of beating their audience with their striking power intact.
