"Ronnie Romero has really hit the mark this time with his second solo album, “Backbone,” which is truly compelling."

In 2023, Ronnie Romero decided to truly launch his solo career after releasing two albums of covers. Unfortunately, "Too Many Lies, Too Many Masters" failed to captivate listeners despite the singer's solid performance. The lack of daring in the compositions condemned the songs to mediocrity, plagued by a guilty classicism that no memorable melody could redeem. At the end of this year, the Chilean is back with "Backbone", which we hope will be more appealing.
Ronnie Romero's musical tastes are no secret. To say that they have become influences here would be a gross understatement. Thus, there are frequent opportunities to catch whiffs of very old friends mingling with those of Lords Of Black, Ronnie's band, in this new offering. But this time, the creators have hit the mark, and the compositions are all compelling. It must be said that the singer enlisted the services of Kee Marcello (Europe), Russ Ballard, and Roy Z for this mission, no less!
There are many nostalgic moments in “Backbone,” such as the eponymous opening track, which captivates the audience with sounds that neither Deep Purple nor Dio would have disowned, taking them back to a glorious past in a melodic maelstrom smashed apart by a furious solo at its heart. 'Keep On Falling' starts with an intro that sounds like it came straight out of Schenker's Flying V. The strings envelop us in a ballad reminiscent of Scorpions, which is suddenly cut short by a riff and chorus worthy of Black Sabbath. 'Lost In Time' is the real sweet spot on this album, and it's mesmerizing. It starts off with a nod to Queensrÿche, before Rainbow, Dio era of course, comes into play. Melancholy is still the order of the day on ‘Bring The Rock’, which at times sounds like the old warhorses of Uriah Heep.
On this “Backbone”, Ronnie Romero still isn't revolutionizing his universe. However, this time around, he offers a consistent opus with compositions that grab your attention and feature melodies that make you want to put the record back on the turntable. The frontman has finally found his personal benchmark album. It's now up to him to make good use of it for the rest of his solo adventures. - Official website
