With their eponymous album, Helloween marked the triumphant return of Michael Kiske and Kai Hansen. The German septet is back with Giants & Monsters, which, coming after such a great album, has no easy task ahead of it. It features a flamboyant cover by Kantor and sees the band maintain the subtle balance that made their comeback such a success.

“Giants Of The Run” starts off in classic fashion with Andi Deris on vocals and a nice build-up. The song takes off into another dimension when Kai Hansen takes over. His raspy voice sends shivers down your spine. The epic tone works, with a unifying chorus and classy solos from the trio of Hansen, Weikath, and Gerstner. “We Can Be Gods” and “Majestic” are melodic speed whirlwinds. Hansen, Kiske, and Deris share the vocals perfectly, and there are some great epic and ethereal aspects to them.

“Savior Of The World” and “Under The Moonlight” are melodic speed slaps with remarkable direct choruses sung by an impressive Michael Kiske. 'Universe' is fabulous, at once ethereal, catchy, and deliciously fast. Kiske shines, his high-pitched vocals are enormous, and he exudes a beautiful sensitivity. Andi Deris is alone on ‘Hand Of God’ and almost entirely on ‘This Is Tokyo’, two good tracks typical of Helloween's 1990s style with effective choruses.

There are two duets on which Andi Deris and Michael Kiske show great chemistry and complement each other perfectly. ‘A Little Is A Little Too Much’ is a fresh, direct, and joyful track, exuding a pleasant sense of fun worthy of Helloween in their heyday, with a great chorus. ‘Into The Sun’ is calmer, in the form of a melancholic ballad. Deris and Kiske are comfortable in this laid-back style, with a catchy chorus and airy solos full of feeling.

“Giants & Monsters” is a resounding success. Helloween is in brilliant form, carried by musicians in perfect harmony. With such a bombshell, the German band shows that it remains the boss when it comes to melodic speed metal.

OTHER REVIEWS
BLOODYWOOD: Nu Delhi (2025)
METALCORE - “Nu Delhi” is a solid and technically brilliant album, which establishes Bloodywood as a band that is now impossible to ignore, but which would benefit from taking more risks in its future compositions.
THE DIVINE COMEDY: Rainy Sunday Afternoon (2025)
INDEPENDANT ROCK - In “Rainy Sunday Afternoon,” The Divine Comedy blends dark lyricism, subtle irony, and a very British patina to deliver one of its most finely crafted albums.
