Between 2022 and last year, the Australians from Teramaze regaled fans of modern progressive metal with two major works. "Flight Of The Wounded" and "Eli - A Wonderful Fall FromGrace" were two of the band's best-known works, and earned them a place in the pantheon of bands that count. Eleven months later, the overflowing band offered its followers "The Harmony Machine", its twelfth album in a twenty-year career.

Behind guitarist Dean Wells, who remains in charge of the compositions, the team remains united. He once again supports the sensational Nathan Peachey, frontman with one of the finest voices on the circuit. In complete harmony, the two performers' classy vocals give Teramaze a touch of originality that sets it apart from its peers. But that's not the only thing the squad can boast. Another is the way in which these artists meander between different musical trends. Listening to "Harmony Machine", you're left wavering between several classifications: melodic metal? Modern? Progressive? Alternative? A bit of all of the above, not forgetting a few djent, pop and even rapped passages (‘Like A Cyborg’), to give you even more variety.

So, as you work your way through the nine tracks on this album, it's not surprising to come across Threshold, Cyhra, Coheed And Cambria (‘Gloom’ and ‘Perfect World’), Pain Of Salvation (‘Sinister’) and Dream Theater. The guiding principle, which here too may prove to be a trademark, is the choice of immediate melodic impact within ambitious structures. Straightforward themes and multi-rhythm arrangements work surprisingly well together. Although shorter than usual, these scores will still satisfy proponents who shun conceptual ease, while delighting those who swear by easy listening.

According to the Australians, this new work is the first volume of a double album, the second part of which will be released later this year. Teramaze seems to have mastered the art of remaining prolific without becoming repetitive. There's no fear of fatigue setting in, so the follow-up to this highly successful "The Harmony Machine" will be eagerly awaited.

POP EVIL: What Remains (2025)
HEAVY METAL - Coming close to metalcore bands without ever reaching their intensity or brutality, Pop Evil is a solid alternative for those who like aggressiveness without the more extreme aspects.
VISAVIS: The Art Of Collapse (2024)
HEAVY METAL - Visavis hardens its tone and refines its vision: with "The Art of Collapse", the band is no longer content to evolve, it explodes its own foundations.
