Everything seemed to be going well for Primal Fear, who had confirmed their artistic health with “Code Red,” yet in 2024, the band parted ways with four of its members, with only Magnus Karlsson saving his place alongside the duo Matt Sinner and Ralf Scheepers. This did not slow down the German band, which recruited new members and is back with “Domination,” featuring the familiar eagle mascot on the cover.

The heart of “Domination” is formed by “The Hunter,” “Destroyer,” “I Am The Primal Fear,” “The Dead Don't Die,” and “Crossfire.” Ralf sings with a remarkably catchy high-pitched tone. The choruses are direct and unifying, while the riffs and solos seduce with their melodic side. “Eden” is a gentle track with keyboards and a masterful melodic break. Ralf displays his sensitive side and is well accompanied by the catchy vocals of Melissa from Ad Infinitum. “A Tune I Won't Forget” is a charming and emotional ballad.

Of course, Primal Fear doesn't leave power metal behind. “Far Away,” “Heroes Of God,” and ‘Scream’ are pure melodic speed metal. Ralf sings fast and well, reminding us of his time in Gamma Ray. An exciting epic side emerges, while the solos are beautifully mind-blowing. With “March Boy March,” the tone is even faster and more nervous. Primal Fear is reminiscent of Judas Priest or Accept, carried by Ralf in powerful screaming mode. The track is particularly impressive, with a fast solo that showcases his mastery.

With “Domination,” Primal Fear is in great shape. The personnel changes have not slowed the band down, which shows a great ability to mix power and melody, making the album highly recommended.
