"Fears" is the third album of the Swiss band Clepsydra. Productivity doesn't seem to be the major goal of the band since they only release an album every three years. Has taking their time been beneficial?

Probably because the result is more than convincing. Compared to "Alone", the music of "Fears" is lighter. The big Pendragon-like chords that overloaded "Alone" are replaced by simple keyboard accompaniments. The synthetic sounds are quite well found and varied enough to avoid any weariness. They are sometimes accompanied by an acoustic guitar of the most beautiful effect.

Of course the expressive guitar soli in the pure tradition of neo progressive rock have not been forgotten and are scattered throughout the album. The only shadow that hangs over this album is the particular, a little nasal vocals that, as soon as it goes up in the high notes, can surprise the listener. After a few listenings, it disturbs less and the magic contained in "Fears" is released.

Emotionally successful, this album of Clepsydra is certainly easier to access than "Alone" which got tired after a while of listening. Simpler but catchier, this is an album that will find its place in any good neo prog record library.

OTHER REVIEWS
MARILLION: Fugazi (1984)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - Alternating catchy tracks and other more complex and darker ones, "Fugazi" is undoubtedly one of the most difficult albums of Marillion to access but it remains one of the major works of the band.
KING CRIMSON: The Power To Believe (2003)
PROGRESSIVE ROCK - With its impeccable construction and raging sound, "The Power To Believe" is a coherent album without unnecessary digressions. Without a doubt, the best album of King Crimson since "Starless"...
