In a career spanning over thirty years, Brainstorm has never given up. Despite a string of top-quality albums, he has never broken through the barrier of popularity and remains confined to a limited audience. This would have discouraged many, but Andy B Franck is not one to give up. The band is back with its fourteenth album, “Plague Of Rats”, a concept opus featuring India.
Faithful to his register, Brainstorm offers several missiles. 'Beyond Enemy Lines', ‘Fale Memories’, ‘Masquerade Conspiracy’, ‘Crowling’ and ‘Curtains Fall’ are real power melodic metal hits. The tone is powerful and energetic, driven by a remarkable Andy. The unifying refrains are well delivered, and the solos are a pleasure to savor, with their mix of melody and speed.
Brainstorm also knows how to sound purely melodic on ‘Garuda’, ‘The Shepherd Girl’ and ‘The Dark Of Night’, giving off a catchy heavy melodic edge with an effective directness. Andy becomes a storyteller, and the little oriental passages really come into their own.
The band welcomes the vocal duo from Leaves' Eyes on two tracks. Firstly, ‘Your Soul That Linger In Me’ with Elina Siirala, driven by complementary, powerful and catchy vocals, followed by ‘From Hell’ with Alex Krull, her evil twin whose growl sticks to the wall with effectiveness.
Despite the passage of time, Brainstorm have lost none of their qualities. With “Plague Of Rats”, they have produced a high-flying, splendid album that's a real pleasure to listen to. - Official website
