"Wildness fails to transcend its melodic hard rock with “Avenger”, whose melodies rarely stand out."

Wildness' first three albums tugged at the Swedish heartstrings of hard-melodic men. On those first attempts, the twelve-year-old combo made their mark by letting a few tempestuous gusts of wind fill the sails of their melodic hard rock frigate. Fast rhythms, swift solos and vocal thrusts had enabled the band to enter the circle of crews to watch. At the start of this year, “Avenger” is presented to the gargantuan appetite of the aforementioned hordes.
Let's face it, the hammer missed its target in part. While there's no question of throwing the opus in the bin, it's fair to say that it has less impact than its predecessors. The fault lies in too many mid-tempo songs with melodies that show a culpable lack of imagination. As a result, despite the ever-attractive guitars, we often get bored on each track.
However, we must highlight the few tracks that stand out from the crowd: 'Wings Of Fire', with its typical Swedish melodic hard rock sounds, and the eponymous composition, which packs a punch while evoking Praying Mantis in its melody; 'Walk Through The Fire', which also takes us back to the 80's; and 'Stand Your Ground', the fastest track of the lot, which gives us the Accept look. As for the rest, the ballad 'I'll Be Over You' and its discordant guitar can hold its own, as can the strong AOR 'Caught Up In A Moment', which may catch the ear via its original solo.
So, Wildness doesn't quite make the grade with this cutely formatted “Avenger”, too lacking in incisiveness and insufficiently rich in buoyant melodies. Let's hope that the Scandinavians can turn things around on their next release. Swedish blood never lies! - Official website
