With the release of “Deceivers”, Arch Enemy confirmed their excellent artistic health, offering a perfect balance between violence and melody. With a career already in full swing, it's no mean feat to see the Swedish outfit in such fine shape. Since then, Jeff Loomis has handed over the guitar reins to Joey Conception, a sharp shooter with a proven track record in the genre.
For “Blood Dynasty”, Arch Enemy remains on its recent achievements. When the band plays purely melodic death metal, it does so brilliantly. 'Dream Stealer', ‘March Of The Miscreants’, ‘Don't Look Down’ and ‘The Pendulum’ are all nuggets, swimming between percussive metal death driven by a huge growl from Alyssa White-Gluz and a catchier tone on the choruses. The duo of newcomer Joey Concepcion and Michael Amott is fabulous: they throw down riffs and fiery solos cut from the best of the genre with an impressive sense of melody.
'Illuminate The Path' showcases Alyssa's ethereal clear vocals. The track has an epic facet and an appreciable heavy edge. 'A Million Suns' and ‘Paper Tiger’ have the same catchy feel on irresistible choruses. The growl brings out the death aspect, while the guitarists add a heavy touch. Then there's ‘Vivre Libre’, a cover of Blasphème. Alyssa is fabulous, with a charming accent and a melancholy touch. The guitarists, whose deep attachment to the French heavy metal scene of the 1980s is obvious, are to be commended.
With “Blood Dynasty”, Arch Enemy confirms its fine form. The album is melodic, hard-hitting and nasty, a magnificent demonstration of the best of the melodic metal death sound. - Official website
