Danger Zone are an Italian hard rock band who have released just four albums since their debut in 1984. After a hiatus of almost thirty years, they returned in 2008, and this year celebrate the fortieth anniversary of their debut with a new opus entitled “Shut Up! Will this fifth album be as well received as “Don't Count On Heroes”, released in 2019?

Danger Zone is very 1980s melodic hard rock, with a US twist, and a few forays into AOR when the tempo slows down. Frontman Roberto Priori is the brains behind the sextet. Composer and guitarist, his voice is rather rough for a combo of this ilk, and his performance is particularly impactful. On keyboards, Pier Mazzini contributes greatly to the old-time flavor of the scores. So, those who are put off by pomp-rock piano sounds can throw their lot in with another release without fear of missing out on a gem.

As for the more muscular hits, the opus' opener will please fans of the genre with the catchy 'I Like It' and 'Hurt', which summon up the melodies of One Desire. They will also enjoy the sounds of the strong 80's 'Straight Down The Line' close to House Of Lords and appreciate those of 'I'll Make It Right', whose melodies take us back to Revolution Saints. On the more AOR side of this work, fans of more restful themes will discover 'Tell Me The Truth' which reminds Journey on its intro, and the elegant mid-tempo 'Too Late', whose lightness sometimes verges on the romantic ballad.

With “Shut Up!”, Danger Zone offer a catchy album that allows, with good measure and skill, melodic hard rock to cross paths with AOR in well-crafted melodies. These Transalpine pioneers of the style deserve our full appreciation for their tenacity. Forty years of songwriting, that's quite respectable.
